Cowboy Boots - A blast from the past! (Trend history)

Published on 25 November 2022 at 12:26

Who would have thought old western cowboy boots would make a return?! But they have! I'm talking old brown dusty boots for cowboys in the 1800s now turned into dazzling modern boots seen on catwalks all around. The cowboy boot was an iconic style of riding boot, traditionally worn by cowboys or horse riders. Riding boots were an essential part of horse-riding wear for hundreds of years, originating in the plains and the far western United States and was originally inspired by the vaquero-style boot brought to the Americas from Spain in the 1600s.

Origins of the Trend:

In the 1800s, Charles Hyer a German immigrant shoemaker was commissioned by a Colorado cowboy in need of some new boots for the Civil War. From then on, the unique design was born and quickly adapted to fit the needs of performers, ranchers, cattlemen and even popular western film stars of the time. Fast forward to the 2000s and many celebrities were hopping on to this returning trend, for example, Rihanna showcased them for "Hope Rocks" benefit concert with a lime green camisole and a denim mini skirt. Whilst music stars and designers have helped the increase in cowboy boot fashion, it most certainly also social media influencers who have driven this aesthetic forward even further.
